Art on the Air Presents Shelley Smith Talking Saints & Sinners

On this week's episode of Art on the Air, we're excited to welcome Shelley Smith back onto the show to talk all about her latest project, "Saints & Sinners," a series of 120 oyster shell portraits that she'll be showing at Hospice Savannah's Summer Nights Party on Friday, September 24th 2021 from 6-9pm at Soho South Cafe!

Smith began the series shortly after a car accident left her temporarily unable to do the metal work for which she'd become known. Exploring the many personalities of Savannah, from well known folks like Jessica Lebos, Katherine Sandoz, and Mayor Van Johnson, to ordinary saints like her favorite post office worker, the affable artist not only found an alternative creative outlet, but a way to feel connected to her community during a time when in-person meetings were difficult.

Jimmy is perhaps best known as a tattoo artist and owner of The Butcher Tattoo Studio on Bay Street. But his passion has always been in creating fine art projects with a variety of media, from painting and illustration, to murals and shoe design. Most recently Butcher has been working for none other than Kanye West!

On this week's episode of Art on the Air we're pleased to present our Field Note with Stuart Miller! Stuart is the Director of the City of Savannah Department of Cultural Resources, and heads the team that runs the Cultural Arts Center.

He was hired in February 2020, and a month later the pandemic hit, so it's been quite a year-plus for the city's top art official. Tune in and learn all about what they've been up to while they were closed, and what plans they have as the center reopens!
